The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) is the leading UN agency in terms of providing support for agriculture and rural development, forestry and fisheries. We are recruiting one candidate for work to be performed at the FAO Regional Office for Europe and Central Asia, located in Budapest, with the following terms:

Job Description

  • The Junior Technical Officer (JTO) will be part of the Regional-Subregional Climate Change Team and contribute to support countries in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and particularly FAO Regional Priority Programme: “Managing natural resources sustainably and preserving biodiversity in a changing climate” in Europe and Central Asia with a specific focus on promoting FAO Strategy on Climate Change 2022-2031 contributing to sustainable agri-food systems transformation in the Region.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to FAO’s normative work on project formulation, and development of information products related to climate change.
  • Support the Regional application of the FAO Climate Change Action Plan in Europe and Central Asia (2024-2025).
  • Support the country and regional level activities related to the current climate change related issues in the region, through studies, analyses and reports.
  • Engage with climate change focal points in FAO country offices in the region.
  • Assist in identification, development and formulation and implementation of climate projects.
  • Engage in activities promoting climate action in the region, including better environment.
  • Review status of climate action in Europe and Central Asia programme countries.
  • Contribute to formulation and implementation of capacity development programmes in programme countries of the region, including backstopping missions, and the preparation of training and information materials for counterparts in countries and also beyond.
  • Provide technical support for the organization of multi-stakeholder meetings and other events related to climate change in the region.
  • Perform other related duties as required.

Requirements

  • Hungarian citizenship at the time of application.
  • Master’s degree in agriculture, environment or related fields.
  • At least one year of relevant experience in public institutions and ministries, international organizations, research institutes, consulting companies or NGOs, working with agriculture or climate change.
  • Knowledge and understanding of issues related to climate change and agrifood systems.
  • Very good working knowledge of English, spoken and written, with a capacity to write and edit working documents in English.
  • Excellent information technology skills, including word processing, presentation software (PowerPoint), spreadsheet application (Excel) and the Internet.

Conditions

  • Duration: Two years full time – non-renewable contract.
