The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) is the leading UN agency in terms of providing support for agriculture and rural development, forestry and fisheries. We are recruiting one candidate for work to be performed at the FAO Regional Office for Europe and Central Asia, located in Budapest, with the following terms:
Job Description
- Under the overall supervision of the FAO Communication Officer for Europe and Central Asia, the Communications Assistant will participate in a wide range of activities aimed at promoting visibility and awareness of FAO and its activities in Hungary, in the region, and worldwide.
Responsibilities
- Support the communications team with the day-to-day news, web related and social media activities.
- Research and draft stories for the Intranet, prepare periodic meeting notes and help organize training, workshops and related events.
- Support the communication team in the development of information, promotional and interactive materials (i.e. photo galleries, newsletters, slideshows).
- Support the communication team in the development of promotional items such as banners, caps, t-shirts, posters, tote bags, notebooks etc.
- Assist in drafting news items (news stories, Adestra newsletters) of various formats (electronic, printed, web) in English in accordance with FAO writing style guidelines (formatting, fonts, index, acronyms, spell check, headers and footnotes) and visuals (pictures, graphics, infographics, etc.).
- Participate in planning and organizing of virtual/public events (conferences, presentations, training events, visits of officials, field visits, etc.) ensuring consistency of messages, quality of events, and visibility.
- Support the communication team in updating the FAO’s regional website, dissemination of press materials.
- Maintain and periodically update relevant contact databases (media and other partners).
- Provide support by liaising with procurement colleagues to prepare purchase requisitions and secondment reports.
- Update the Intranet, upload new content, pictures and documents.
- Do media monitoring and record media coverage.
- Gather and record information on FAO’s Senior Management Media Initiative requirement;
- Serve as photographer at regional and internal events, system use photos and prepare photo galleries.
- Gather video material and edit videos.
- Perform other related duties as required.
Requirements
- Higher education degree in a field relevant to communications.
- Excellent knowledge of English and Hungarian (both spoken and written).
- Ability to meet deadlines while managing multiple concurrent assignments.
- Proficiency in modern communication applications (video editing, photo stories, web content management, etc.), in addition to standard office software.
- Hungarian citizenship at the time of application is a minimum requirement.
Advantages
- Understanding of and experience with online, broadcast, social and print media.
- Working-level Russian will be considered an asset, but not a requirement.
Conditions
- Duration: Three years full time – non-renewable contract.
