The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) is the leading UN agency in terms of providing support for agriculture and rural development, forestry and fisheries. We are recruiting one candidate for work to be performed at the FAO Regional Office for Europe and Central Asia, located in Budapest, with the following terms:
Job Description
- The Junior Technical Officer (JTO) will contribute to support countries in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and particularly assist with programme development, partnership and outreach and support resource mobilization efforts in the Region.
Responsibilities
- Participate in multidisciplinary project/work teams and provide technical/analytical input for plans, reports and technical/scientific documents.
- Collect and analyse information, data and/or statistics to support the delivery of programmes, projects as well as products and services.
- Participate in the development of improved work methods, tools and systems.
- Collaborate in the development of training tools and materials and the organization of workshops/seminars.
- Participate in the organization, conduct and follow-up of meetings, consultations and conferences, the development/production of required materials and provision of information and assistance to partners.
- Support REU in resource mobilization efforts and Country Offices in developing programmes and projects.
- Contribute to the facilitation of contacts with potential partners to explore partnership and financing opportunities, and contribute to effective communication and dialogue with partners.
- Assist with the negotiations of agreements and proposals with governments, resource partners, and other stakeholders.
- Organize, facilitate and participate in informal and formal meetings with resource partners; and promote FAO visibility.
- Compile and analyze resource partner intelligence, funding data and trends and prepare briefs.
- Assist the process of development and management of new funding and partnership opportunities and modalities.
- Assist in scoping of new and potential private sector engagements and support the conceptualization, planning, and organization of events and dialogues with private sector.
- Perform other related duties as required.
Requirements
- Hungarian citizenship at the time of application.
- Advanced university degree in management and business administration, international law or any other field related to the mandate of FAO.
- At least one year of relevant experience in Government ministries, international organizations or research institutes, consulting companies and NGOs, including research or management of fisheries, policy development or implementation, food trade and markets, food safety and quality, field of statistics and data management of fisheries, monitoring and evaluation of policies and programmes. PhD degree can substitute for working experience.
- Very good working knowledge of English, spoken and written, with a capacity to write and edit working documents in English. Knowledge of Russian language is an advantage.
- Excellent information technology skills, including word processing, presentation software (PowerPoint), spreadsheet application (Excel) and the Internet.
Conditions
- Duration: Two years full time – non-renewable contract.
